Grant for Tooling
Brief Description
Themistoklis project aims to make it easy to capture real-world data with drones and offer off-the-shelf models to derive insights from the captured data. It also supports generating 3D models of the real world, which can be used in VR game development.
Detailed description
Building the Future of Drone2Data To Fight Climate Change and Food Security
Mapping real-world maps made easy
Climate change is perhaps the biggest threat facing humanity today. It creates a drier and hotter climate, leading to wildfires that could further accelerate climate change. This forms a perfect positive feedback loop that could shrink our time to address the looming climate crisis. An early fire detection system aimed at detecting fire in the most inaccessible areas or during the night time, when and where the conditions don’t help their early detection, could be an important tool in this battle against climate change. What is more, Project Themistoklis aims to make it easy for anyone to map the real world using drones. That could form the basis for many climate solutions. The NLP model can generate navigation plans for the drones and send them movement commands.
We aim to use drones to capture the real world using cameras and other sensors. The captured data can be used to detect wildfire, survey biodiversity, monitor forest health, and provide valuable information that was once inaccessible. This drone2data tech stack we are developing will be as important in addressing food security when deployed at farms as it will be in addressing climate change.
Our target audience is mostly public organizations, like fire fighters, the police, etc., but also farmers and gardeners.
The project is meant to be used to prevent wildfires, find survivors in debris after a disaster, scan areas to detect early fires, building collapses, car accidents, etc. What is more, users will be able to survey the biodiversity of forests and farms and detect different plant types and diseases.
Finally, the server will generate the world map based on satellite images and then, based on the drone footage, it will update the map and generate a DIFF, which will help researchers detect changes on earth easily.
Drones will be the main means of using it, but it will also support image feed in other ways. The NLP model will be trained to fly drones easily just by using simple commands.
What would UMA lose out on if it did not fund this grant
If UMA did not fund this grant, it would lose out on the opportunity to improve the quality of its programs and increase its NFT trades , because we will create smart contracts when detecting fires, etcetera, which will lead to the continuous use of the NFT coin. What is more, the users will be using the IPFS to synchronize their data. This will show the users that blockchain can be used for a variety of reasons for the public good.
